My sound went out, and I bought this item to see if a usb sound card would fix the problem. It does work, but it sounds distorted even at low volumes and there is background noise as well. If you're desperate and just need to hear on your computer again, this is a cheap way to do so. Now that I know it can fix the problem though, I will be upgrading to a much better quality usb card.
Microphone Does Not Work

The sound was not coming though the jack on my laptop. I purchased this USB adapter so that I could use my headset. The sound comes just fine through the headset, however, the microphone does not work. The unit is of no use to me as I cannot use the microphone.
